#myLPL: Helping People ‘Make Good Decisions’ From North to South

For the past several years, LPL Financial advisor Blain Bogar has split his time between a small town in rural Montana[KD1]  and the city that never sleeps – Las Vegas. His credits LPL Financial for the flexibility and independence to be able to impact lives and build customized investment strategies for clients in both places.

Born and raised in Montana, Blain wanted to stay close to his roots after graduating from Montana State University. He entered the financial services in 2001, joining a small firm that was later bought out. After the financial crisis of 2008, he decided to become an independent advisor in order to “get on the same side as the client.” He researched several firms, and was impressed by LPL’s size, scale, and transparency. “It’s not about pushing products or certain fund families or creating revenue for the investment bank. LPL has clout and integrity that gives a level of credibility to what we’re doing.”

Blain moved to Las Vegas in 2009 and started Big Sky Wealth Management, partnering with OSJ Tom Sullivan. “I knew I didn’t want to work out of my house or be an island in the independent world.

Although Las Vegas provides “more opportunity, more people, and more money,” Blain also keeps an office in Billings, Montana for his clients up north. “I have the best of both worlds, and am really fortunate to be able to work with clients all over the country, from either office.”

With a baby girl due in March, the father of three [KD2] expects 2018 to be his best year yet. “I’m happy with LPL. I’m happy with my family. I’m looking forward to more growth and better things to come.

“I didn’t come into this industry just to make money,” he continued. “Of course, as financial advisor, money is part of that equation, but a person’s wealth can’t be measured in dollars and cents. Having a place in the north and a place in the south to meet people and help them make good decisions that benefit their life – it’s very satisfying.”
